Akiak

The Iditarod Race across Alaska takes place on March every year. Akiak struggles to finish the race. Do you think she will? Read the story in class and find out.
Scholastic also has an interesting page where you can learn a lot about Alaska and the Iditarod Race. Take a look at it and let me know what you learned.

Volcanoes!

Do you know what a volcano is?

A volcano is an opening or rupture in a planet's surface or crust, which allows hot magma, ash and gases to escape from below the surface.
Dogzilla, in Dav Pilkey's story, lives inside a volcano. We know that is fiction, but it's still interesting to find out real facts about it. Visit the Discovery Kids internet site and find out a bit more.

The Star-Spangled Banner

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
